Ideas for Fairtrade Activities
Most of these activities can be all-age. Those marked with an asterisk means the group has this material available for loan

  1. *Quiz (2 available)
  2. Do your own display of *various posters and leaflets and make up a quiz on it.
  3. *Ordering and Matching activity. (Pictures showing the stages of chocolate production from bean to bar. Put in order then match captions with pictures.)
  4. *The Banana Game. (A game played in teams, involving 'producing' bananas, illustrating unfairness.)
  5. *The Chocolate Trade Game
  6. *Coffee Chain activity. (Illustrates that supporting farmers through Fairtrade is more effective than charity.)
  7. *Colour in pictures on life in developing countries.
  8. Draw a picture illustrating Fairtrade products/the difference Fairtrade makes to people's lives.
  9. Use an atlas to discover the country of origin of Fairtrade fruit and fruit products.
  10. *'Fun With Fruit': fill in gaps in sentences with names of Fairtrade fruits. (text available on website)
  11. Design a poster to advertise Fairtrade Fresh Fruit.
  12. Write a poem/letter to the newspaper or a story about Fairtrade and the difference it makes to people's lives, based on *case studies.
  13. *'Life's Great for Abdul Now!': read and complete gap-fill text about Fairtrade Footballs. (text available on website)
  14. Watch a *video on Fairtrade.
  15. Tour a local supermarket and spot the Fairtrade Marks.
  16. Assemble a variety of Fairtrade goods and match to the countries of origin on a world map.
  17. Get a local map and mark all the shops/cafes selling Fairtrade goods.
  18. Go on a Fairtrade walk in your local area, finishing at one of the Fairtrade cafes.
  19. Draw up a survey and ask friends and neighbours what Fairtrade products they buy.
  20. Have a tasting session of chocolate, fruit, wine etc.
  21. Have a Fairtrade cookery session and sell the products.
  22. *Use sketches or readings with a group. (see list of Sketches on website)
